Chimoney Is Now Licensed as a Bank of Canada Payment Service Provider!
Today, we’re excited to share a major milestone in our journey, we’re officially registered as a Payment Service Provider (PSP) under Canada’s Retail Payments Activities Act (RPAA)! This registration recognizes us as a regulated payment platform that meets strict standards of safety, compliance, and operational resilience.
We are now one of the few platforms globally, and the first built for both AI agents and humans, to combine licensed payment infrastructure with verifiable digital identity and real-time policy enforcement.
What our Payment Service Provider Registration Means
Becoming a PSP under the RPAA means Chimoney has met all Bank of Canada requirements, including:
- Segregation and safeguarding of end-user funds
- National security screening
- Operational risk controls
- Reporting and compliance obligations
- Ongoing supervision by the Bank of Canada
This strengthens trust across our ecosystem and positions us for deeper integration with Canada’s payment architecture, including future access to Payments Canada membership, Interac programs, and the upcoming Real-Time Rail payment system.
What This Means for Businesses, Enterprises & Regulated Industries
Regulated sectors including banks, insurers, healthcare, fintechs, and enterprise platforms, can now use Chimoney with confidence that:
- Funds are protected through segregated, insured accounts
- Every transaction undergoes real-time KYC/AML screening
- Every user and agent has a verifiable digital identity
- Payments and actions are fully traceable and auditable
- The platform complies with FINTRAC, PCMLTFA, and RPAA requirements
Agentic Payments: Infrastructure Built for AI
The license comes at a pivotal moment where AI agents are becoming autonomous, yet the financial system wasn’t built for machine-native transactions. Chimoney is the first to offer a digital passport and payment infrastructure for both AI agents and humans, extending its trusted, human-scale payment rails into a complete digital passport and payment stack for AI agents, all under full regulatory supervision.
With Chimoney every AI agent receives:
- A W3C-compliant Digital Passport with L4 assurance
- A programmable wallet with multi-currency support
- An Interledger wallet address for micropayments and cross-border flows
- Policy guardrails for spending limits, allowlists, and delegation rules enforced in real time
This allows agents and humans to transact safely, paying for services, managing subscriptions, or executing micro-transactions, all tied to verified identity and continuous compliance.
With global scalability across 130+ countries, support for multiple blockchains and stablecoins, and 24/7 reliability, Chimoney provides the trusted, compliant infrastructure enterprises need to deploy autonomous agents in the real world.
The Road Ahead
Our new PSP status marks a major step toward building an open, secure payments system for both humans and intelligent agents. We’re excited to partner with enterprises, and businesses to enable the next wave of agentic applications, from automated financial assistants to autonomous business operations.
